About dental implants
An implant is a titanium post placed in the jawbone to replace the root of a missing tooth. Once it has fused with the bone, a crown or bridge is fitted on top — from a single tooth to a full arch, without cutting the neighbouring teeth.
What it offers
- Neighbouring teeth stay untouched
- Stable, fixed support once fused with the bone
- A natural-looking result
- Single teeth, bridges or full arches
How it's done
- Examination and X-rays to assess the bone
- Implant placement under local anaesthetic
- Around 2–4 months of healing while the implant fuses
- The permanent crown or bridge is fitted
Who it's for
- Adults over 18 whose jaw has finished growing
- People with missing teeth and enough suitable bone
- People whose general health allows implant surgery
Aftercare
- Avoid very hot and very cold food and drinks for the first 48 hours.
- Don't drink alcohol or smoke.
- Keep your mouth especially clean and follow your dentist's advice.
